Mindset Monday: Perspective, Perception & Positionality
π― Learning Intention
I will explore how my perspective, perception, and positionality shape the way I understand myself and others.
β
Success Criteria
- I can define the three terms in my own words.
- I can give an example of how my perspective, perception, or positionality affects my view.
- I can reflect on how this awareness can make me a stronger learner and teammate.
π§ Why Are We Learning This?
Leaders, researchers, and innovators all need to understand that no one sees the world in a βneutralβ way. By noticing how our perspective, perception, and positionality shape us, we can make fairer decisions, respect diverse viewpoints, and become stronger collaborators.
π Warm-Up (Tech Journal, 5β7 min)
Prompt: Think about a time when you and a friend or classmate disagreed about something you both saw or experienced. How did your perspectives or perceptions differ?
π£οΈ Formative Lecture & Discussion (with CFU)
- Perspective: The lens you bring β shaped by experiences.
- Perception: The meaning you attach β how you interpret.
- Positionality: Where you stand in relation to power, privilege, or context.
Check for Understanding (CFU):
- βIf two people see the same event but describe it differently, which term explains that difference?β
- βHow does positionality affect how people might respond to your survey or project?β
