How do we locate places on Earth accurately, and how do map projections change the way we see the world?
I will explain how latitude and longitude describe position on Earth and how different map projections distort shape, area, distance, or direction.
Latitude — Angular distance north/south of the Equator (–90° to +90°).
Longitude — Angular distance east/west of the Prime Meridian (–180° to +180°).
Equator — Line of 0° latitude.
Prime Meridian — Line of 0° longitude (Greenwich, UK).
Hemisphere — Half of the Earth (N/S/E/W).
