Today I will import a dataset into ArcGIS Online and practice mapping local landmarks.

I can upload a CSV file, view its data as a map layer, and explain how attributes (like “Type”) change how the map is understood.

GIS isn’t just about maps — it’s about data. Learning to connect a spreadsheet (CSV) to a visualization is the foundation of real-world GIS projects, from housing dashboards to climate models.

📣 Formative Lecture & Demo (10–12 min)

• Go to Map Viewer

  • From the home page, click Map (this opens the Map Viewer).

• Add Your CSV File

  • Click the Add button in the toolbar.
  • Select Add Layer from File.
  • Choose your CSV file (ex: SanBernardino_Landmarks.csv).

  ⚠️ Important: Your CSV must have latitude and longitude columns (which we built in).
